Steven Spielberg directs this adaptation of the Broadway musical starring Ansel Elgort and Rachel Zegler. Set in 1961 in Manhattan's West Side, the film depicts the forbidden love affair between Tony and Maria (Elgort and Zegler), two young lovers caught on opposite sides of a violent gang war between the Jets and the Sharks. The two gangs are sworn enemies, and nothing Maria or Tony can say will persuade them to end the escalating conflict. The cast also includes Ariana DeBose, David Alvarez and Mike Faist.
