Live action French comedy based on the comics by Albert Uderzo and Rene Goscinny. The Egyptian Queen Cleopatra (Monica Bellucci) bets the Roman Emperor Julius Caesar (Alain Chabat) that she will be able to build a magnificent new palace within three months, thus proving that Egypt is the greater nation. The honour of building the palace goes to the architect Numerobis (Jamel Debbouze). If he succeeds, he will be covered in gold, but if he fails, he will be eaten by crocodiles. Numerobis calls upon his old friend the Druid Getafix (Claude Rich) for help and in order to protect him, Asterix (Christian Clavier) and Obelix (Gerard Depardieu) accompany him on his journey to Egypt. When Caesar learns that the project is close to succeeding, he has the building site attacked by his troops so that he will win the bet. However, he hasn't counted on the presence of Asterix and Obelix...
