Pedro Almodóvar writes and directs this Spanish drama starring Penélope Cruz. Single mothers Janis (Cruz) and Ana (Milena Smit) meet after they both give birth on the same day in a Madrid maternity ward. Middle-aged professional photographer Janis decides to embrace motherhood alone after Arturo (Israel Elejalde), with whom she is having an affair, decides he is unable to support her. As she faces family problems of her own, Janis supports adolescent Ana as she begins to come to terms with her role as a new mother.
