Jack Gold directs this British television drama based on the autobiography by Quentin Crisp. As he grows up and becomes aware of his sexuality, Quentin (John Hurt) is determined never to hide who he is, despite the highly conservative and intolerant society he is living in. After becoming a prostitute and then an artist, he is rejected from serving in the military in WWII and instead takes up nude modelling at an art school. However, as he searches for love, the threats of violence and imprisonment are ever present. The cast also includes John Rhys-Davies, Colin Higgins and Stanley Lebor.
